Philippine Holidays for 2009

Posted by Patrick on October 12, 2008

Updated information on Philippine Holidays can be found here:

Original content of this post follows.

If we were to base the Philippine Holiday “schedule” on Proclamation 1463, we’re possibly looking at the following:

A. Regular Holidays

· Araw ng Kagitingan – Thursday, 09 April

· Maundy Thursday – Thursday, 09 April

· Good Friday – Friday, 10 April

· Labor Day – - Friday, 01 May

· Independence Day – Friday, 12 June. Might not be moved to nearest Monday anymore

· National Heroes Day – Last Monday of August (31 August)

· Bonifacio Day – Already on a Monday, 30 November

· Christmas Day – Friday, 25 December

· Rizal Day – Wednesday, 30 December

B. Special (non-working) Holidays

· Ninoy Aquino Day – Monday, 24 August (or might be retained on Friday, 21 August)

· All Saints Day – Sunday, 01 November

· Last Day of the Year – Thursday, 31 December

· Eid – open date, but the internet says 20 September.

Plus other holidays that may be announced from time to time.

Just a thought: if TWO regular holidays fall on the same day, do employees get 400% pay? (Don’t answer that.)

My company released almost the same list as you have but why is Araw ng Kagitingan – Thursday, 09 April stays on april 9 when RA 9492 guidelines said “Araw ng Kagitingan (Bataaan and Corregidor Day) – Monday nearest April 9″ source: http://www.ops.gov.ph/records/ra_no9492.htm

Following RA9492 then Araw ng Kagitingan should either be April 6 or April 13.

    Ramel,

That’s why there’s a clause in the RA that states “Unless otherwise modified by law, and or proclamation…” and thus I said “we’re probably looking at” and I even put a disclaimer –

Disclaimer: This is in no way an authoritative or official declaration of Philippine Holidays for 2009. All information or conclusions were based on previous declared events.

Anyway, that’s holy week already, and perhaps in the interest of the business community, it may not be advisable to cut short an already shortened work week.

These are all assumptions. Best to wait for an actual proclamation, if there is a need for such.

What is the rule in case two regular holidays fall on the same day?

If two regular holidays fall on the same day (e.g. Araw ng Kagitingan and Good Friday falling on April 9, 1993) is as follows: If employee did not work: 200% of basic pay: if the employee worked: 300% of basic pay.

    Dear “Q” -

Thank you for your comment and stating the “rule” on holidays falling on the same day.

For the record, my question above, and I post again below, was more rhetorical than a curiousity.

“Just a thought: if TWO regular holidays fall on the same day, do employees get 400% pay? (Don’t answer that.)”

Thanks for clarifying that rule though. :)

I think we still have a EDSA Revolution day on Feb.

      TO IAN:

The EDSA Revolution, though commemorated often, is sometimes undeclared as a holiday.

It was left out from Proclamation 1463 last year, so it’s prudent that we leave it at that and let the government decide on it.

Hello My company’s normal work week is Tuesday to Satruday. Is Black Saturday considered a holiday?

Problem with the declarations is that they don’t normally declare pronuoncements for holidays if they fall on weekends.

    TIA

alam ko malayo sa topic ang posting ko.. pero i want to know kung ilang sick leave at vacation leave dapat ang entitled sa isang regular employee? im searching the web for the answers kaso wala ag nakita na answers maliban sa 1976 labor code na 5 VL and 15 SL.. meron ba bagong labor code for this benefits? if so pwede mo kami e orient or bigyan ng proof? kasi currently we are “enjoying” 5 days VL and SL is included sa 5 VL na yan..

your response is very much appreciated. thanks

    John:

As of now, Black Saturday is not a holiday.

    Mae:

The Labor Code provides for a Service Incentive Leave of a total of 5 days only. If the company gives more than that, then well and good.

ART. 95. Right to service incentive leave. – (a) Every employee who has rendered at least one year of service shall be entitled to a yearly service incentive leave of five days with pay.

    (b) This provision shall not apply to those who are already enjoying the benefit herein provided, those enjoying vacation leave with pay of at least five days and those employed in establishments regularly employing less than ten employees or in establishments exempted from granting this benefit by the Secretary of Labor and Employment after considering the viability or financial condition of such establishment.

    (c) The grant of benefit in excess of that provided herein shall not be made a subject of arbitration or any court or administrative action.

thanks patrick.. somehow its clear na rin.. pero im wondering why other companies giving their employees 15 SL..even some call center they enjoying 15 SL..:D

    Mae:

That’s the company’s decision if they want to give more. It’s not bad to give more than the minimum.

    Hi Patrick,

there is one thing id like to clarify regarding holiday pay..
let say, you are paid monthly, and regardless if you work or not during regular holiday,
you are still paid…how is it being computed? like 200% on top of the regular pay,
or the 200% includes your regular pay for that day.

Example: I worked last Aug 31 and i am entitled of 200% additional pay.
    My daily rate is 500.
Should i received 500 only for holiday or 1000? Does my payslip presented like this:

    Basic pay: 7500
    Holiday pay (200%) :1000?

    or

    Basic pay: 7500
    Holiday pay (200%) :500?

I appreciate your response on my inquiries
