Because of Proclamation 1463, dated 18 February 2008, the Philippines will be having ‘additional’ holidays and probably the longest Christmas vacation for office workers as well.
Unfortunately, there were a one or two other holidays seemingly lost, because they fell on weekends.
Take note:
National Heroes Day, usually on the last Sunday (31st) of August, is now moved to the last Monday (25th). That’s one additional holiday.
Bonifacio Day (Sunday, November 30) is moved to Monday, December 1. Chalk up one more rest day for the workers.
All Saints Day (Novemeber 1) falls on a Saturday. No movement for that date.
December 26 (Friday) and 29 (Monday) are declared as additional special non-working holidays. Coupled with the regular holiday for December 30 (Rizal Day), the special holiday on December 31 (Last day of the year), and New Year’s Day (January 1, 2009), that amounts to 8 straight non-working days.
Hmm.. would you want to report to work on Friday, January 2, 2009? For those of you who have Vacation Leave credits available…. (wink wink). That would be 9 straight days of… pardon the term… “bumming around.” … plus the 2 day weekend (January 3-4, 2009)… ELEVEN DAYS!
